Shown above is a photograph of Gerry Beighton, Ryan Seers and Dave Brown (who was the Marker) after the first round of their Open 3 woods 18 ends Singles competition.
Gerry recognised that going into to the tie that he was certainly the underdog, and this was borne out in the first half of the game when Ryan was in control THEN suddenly it all changed - a rejuvenated Gerry won 7 ends 'on the trot' and the score was 14 - 14 after the 17th end! Gerry held his nerve on the last end and beat Ryan by one shot. Ryan, as expected, accepted his loss graciously and warmly congratulated Gerry. He could well have been in shock after losing to a man 62 years his senior, one of the oldest players in our club, who thought he might have to give up bowling until he tried out the metal 'bowling arm' late last year. Gerry is now bowling again with confidence and without damaging the green due to a perfect delivery of the bowl. Steve Hall is next up, he'd better get practicing :-)
